What Is Type 3 Diabetes? — Continued
Type 3 diabetes symptoms and early signs of Alzheimer’s
Early signs of Alzheimer’s disease often include:
- Sudden changes in mood or personality
- Forgetting information, such as dates or appointments
- Difficulty with everyday tasks, such as paying bills
- Visual problems, especially when driving
- Getting lost in familiar areas
- Losing track of conversations
- Forgetting words
- Losing or misplacing things
- Withdrawing from activities and social events
- Unusual behavior, such as wandering, hiding things, or wearing inappropriate clothes
Type 3 diabetes treatments
Most type 3 diabetes treatments focus on managing symptoms, maintaining mental function, and slowing progression of the disease. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s.
Several prescription drugs are used to manage symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, along with behavioral therapy for depression and cognitive performance. Some studies indicate that exercise and leisure activities can help slow the progression of type 3 diabetes. Certain social interventions, especially those that promote language use, can slow cognitive decline and improve the social connectedness of people with Alzheimer’s disease.
Other research has found that taking supplements of resveratrol, a polyphenol found in grapes and pomegranates, may help prevent the plaque-build up that is associated with Alzheimer’s.
How to prevent Alzheimer’s
Some risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease, like age or genetics, cannot be prevented. Research indicates, however, that lifestyle changes can reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s and may help prevent you from developing the disease.
Studies indicate that regular exercise, controlling high blood pressure, and cognitive training may all play a role in preventing Alzheimer’s. Other researchers have found that healthy diets, such as the Mediterranean diet, and getting sufficient vitamin D could also lower your risk of developing Alzheimer’s.
Because of the link between Alzheimer’s disease and insulin resistance, managing or preventing other types of diabetes can also help prevent type 3 diabetes.
